Lesson 4 : Sentence Structures- Compound-Complex Sentence

Asalamualaikum and Hello to everyone,
Today, we have come to the last topic in Sentence Structures which is Compound-Complex Sentence.

What does it mean by a COMPOUND-COMPLEX SENTENCE?
As you see the word COMPOUND, it indicates that it will have a conjunction that will link the clauses in the sentence.

A compound-complex sentence, is a sentence that have two or more I.C (main clauses) and at least one D.C (Subordinate clauses).

Example,

When afternoon comes, most of the employees prefer to have their lunch, but some would rather to stay in the office.

Independent CL (I.C) = Most of the employees prefer to have their lunch
Independent CL (I.C) = Some would rather to stay in the office
Dependent CL (D.C ) = When afternoon comes
Conjunction = but

When afternoon comes, most of the employees prefer to have their lunch, but some would rather to stay in the office.

So, we are going to recap back on what are Independent Clauses and Dependent Clauses.
An I.C (Independent Clause) or main clause is a type of clauses that has the relationship of subject and verb and it carries a complete meaning as a SIMPLE SENTENCE! Meanwhile, a D.C (Dependent Clause) or subordinate clause is a type of clauses that cannot stand alone and has no subject-verb relationship.

If you still confused, lets watch this video ..

Lesson 3 : Sentence Structures- Complex Sentence

Asalamualaikum and Hello everyone,
In this lesson we are going to discuss on the third type of Sentence Structures which is the COMPLEX SENTENCE.

Lets get to know more about this type of sentence. A Complex Sentence made up of 1 Independent Clause/Simple Sentence and 1 or more Dependent Clause.
*Dependent Clause is a type of Clauses that is cannot stand alone and doesn't have any Subject+Verb relation. A Dependent Clause is a type of Clauses that depend on another clause to make it as a complete sentence. Without other clause, an Independent Clause will not be able to stand alone as a sentence with a complete meaning.

So now i bet you already understand the concept. Its ok if you still feel blurred and confused. You got your laptop/ computer with and with internet access, you'll be able to see more videos on youtube regarding explanations about what is a complex sentence means.

Here are some of the examples about Complex Sentences.
*I.C= Independent Clause , D.C=Dependent Clause

Lesson 1 : Sentence Structures - Simple Structures

Topic to be discussed today is SIMPLE SENTENCE. I would like to highlight that even though this is typically taught only at university level, but it is our responsibility to gain extra knowledge especially among the school students and anybody who wants to learn English in a better understanding. I know this might be hard, but i promise to make it way easier to be understood.

Sentence structures divided into four which are:
1. Simple Sentence
2. Compound Sentence
3. Complex Sentence
4. Compound-Complex

As promised, we are going to discuss about the first one which is SIMPLE SENTENCE.
Simple sentence contains (as mentioned in the picture, it contains one Independent Clause (IC) only) So basically, you might be questioning what is an Independent Clause, right?

An Independent Clause is a type of clauses that can stand alone and having Subject and Verb relation which make the clause carries a complete meaning.
Therefore, a SIMPLE SENTENCE=INDEPENDENT CLAUSE.

For further understanding, lets watch this video

Simple isn't it?

Here are some more example to make u guys understand better :

1. I like to eat chicken.
Lets analyse this sentence,
Subject: I
Verb: Eat
This sentence is a simple sentence, yet also being an independent clause. It is because it has the relation of subject and verb and it is a complete sentence in which it conveys a complete meaning of the subject which is "I" that like to eat chicken.

2.  The little baby boy cried 3hours nonstop last night.
